We are lucky in Citrus County to have so many great playgrounds and parks to explore. From swings to slides, to climbing walls and water features, Citrus County parks and playgrounds keep my kids active, are a great place to meet old friends (and make new friends!), and they're FREE!
I often see people asking about which ones are the best. When I moved here 10 years ago the first thing I did was google what playgrounds were close to us. I'll be featuring parks from a specific part of the county each week for a few weeks and also adding them in the Parks and Playgrounds directory.
Locations are listed alphabetically:
Floral Park
9530 South Parkside Ave
Floral City, FL 34436
What we love about Floral Park:
My kids are all teenagers now so Floral Park in Floral City is quickly becoming one of their favorite parks because of the disc golf course. They learned to play in public school at HES when they were little. I love that it gets them active and off their computers and Xboxes. Floral Park is great because it fits community members of all ages and even allows leashed dogs. With everything from a playground to a shuffle board, Floral Park fills a need for it's community.

Holden Community Park
4229 South Rainbow Drive
Inverness, FL 34452
What we love about Holden Community Park:
Holden Community Park in Inverness seems to be often over looked as I have never seen it busy unless there are soccer games going on. It's has a great playground though and it's fun for the kids to see the airplanes coming in and out from the airport! Holden Park is also dog friendly which makes it a great place to get your pets out.

Liberty Park
286 N Apopka Ave
Inverness, FL 34450
What we love about Liberty Park:
Liberty Park is Inverness' newest park and it is beautiful. I do wish it had more shade but even as teenagers the kids like the playground. They have equipment for the littlest kids but also things to attract older kids. The open space at the park is great for throwing frisbees or a football, as well as picnics. The Depot which is part of the park is where the Farm's Market is held on Saturdays. (Check our events calendar for specific dates)

Sportsman Park
95 North Twin Lake Dr
Inverness, FL 34453
What we love about Sportsman Park:
Sportsman Park in Inverness is a favorite of my kids mostly because they can walk to it from our house but it is a nice little park that brings nature and play together. It is a smaller park with no bathroom. The back of Sportsman Park bumps up to wetlands where we've seen at least 3 types of ducks, blue herons and turtles. A little known fact is that the other side of the little road is also owned by the county and there's quite a bit of sand there to play in. With it being so close to wetlands it does flood quickly when there's a lot of rain so keep that in mind when planning your day.

Whispering Pines Park
1700 Forest Dr
Inverness, FL 34453
What we love about Whispering Pines Park:
Whispering Pines has always been a favorite of my kids. When they were little they LOVED the splash pad and the playground. The playground is also one of my favorites in the county because of all the shade and the pavilion right near the playground has made for a great meet up place for our homeschool group. Whispering Pines brings a lot of amenities to our little town of Inverness.
